Around fifty cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Vehicles, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted during the night on Wednesday, when a man observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a red-colored substance.
The substance had been placed in the form of a Nazi symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other vandalized automobiles and house walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under legislation outlawing the visible presentation of Nazi-era symbols.
Officials say initial examinations show the liquid was most likely human blood.
"At present there remains no lead as to its source; investigators are currently not aware of any injuries in connection with the occurrence," they stated.
City officials said they were working "to resolve the mystery" and have asked to the public for tips.
A senior representative stated the vandalism made him without words and required to be solved quickly.
"This incident strikes at the core of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine victims by a assailant focusing on individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
